sister

Everyone always hears about my brother Jimmer but they never hear about my other sibling, my sister Lindsay.  We call her Moran, or Boran or  Numbers, or Biggs and the list goes on and on.  I give everyone nicknames and she has her share of them from me.  How she got them is a whole other story that I won’t get into now.    She is the oldest of the 3 of us and she and I are only two years apart.  We grew up very close and she has always been there for me and Jimmer.  She has been are biggest fan whether it is for Jimmer’s basketball or my music.

She’s pretty talented in her own right but you never hear about it so I’m going fill you in.    She took violin lessons for 9 years, she’s a dancer, she certified in Movement Analysis,  got a degree at BYU in Health and Human Performance, got her teaching certification and now is a 4th grade teacher in Salt Lake City.  She’s married now and has one son,  the first nephew for Jimmer and I.

When she was in high school she played basketball, track and field, (she did the pentathalon), and she also played tennis a season.  She was inducted into the honor society, was in a musical group called “The Strolling Strings”, and was a member of several different clubs. She did really well in school so believe me she was a hard act to follow.

She used to play with us guys in basketball sometimes when we were younger and you didn’t want her guarding you because she was relentless and just as tough as any guy out there.  She was very tenacious.   She could catch the football too whenever she wanted to play that with us out in our backyard or over at the schoolyard.   She didn’t like to loose like Jimmer and I didn’t like to loose either.

When Lindsay was 17 and a senior in high school she decided to enter the Miss NY Teen USA contest.  It’s the prelimenary pageant to the Donald Trump owned Miss Universe Pageant.  Just for a new experience, she decided that it might be fun to try it but she really wasn’t a pageant type person.  Most of the other girls were experienced in pageants so they seemed to know how to act and how to dress for the different categories that they were to be judged in.  Lindsay didn’t.    So she did the best that she could with it and she ended up winning the whole thing.  Just like Jimmer her pictures were all over the local paper and on the local tv channels the next day after she had won.  She had to do interviews and personal appearances for a year until the reign was over.  She did alittle modeling too.

Because of the win she was responsible for one of the best times of my young life.  We had to go down to Louisianna where the nationally televised Miss Teen USA pageant was being broadcast.  She was representing NY and had to be there for about a week’s worth of rehearsals and personal appearances.   I was able to go with my parents and bring 2 of my good friends with me.  There we were… three 15 year old boys right in the midst of the most beautiful teenage girls we had ever seen.  One from each state!!!   By the end of the week we had tried our best to get our picture taken with every girl.   What a teenage boy’s dream it was.

My sister did well in it but she didn’t win the big title.  It was Vanessa Manillo who is currently engaged to Nick Lachey of  the former “ Backstreet Boys”

While we were there we had our pictures taken with N Sync (who was not very well known at the time), Mario Lopez, Ali Landry, Bridget Wilson (who is the girl in Billy Madison) and also married to Pete Sampras, and a few other stars.    It was a good time and it all came about because of Lindsay and her desire to try something new.   Jimmer was with us too and he was about 8 years old.  Too young to enjoy what my friends and I enjoyed the most about it.

So Lindsay has had her own accomplishments and we are all proud of her.  She never misses any of Jimmer’s games out there in Utah and has  helped him in more ways than she knows.  I’m not sure he would have gone way out there if she wasn’t already out there.  She’s a good sport too because no matter what Jimmer and I kid her about like brothers do, she can give it back to us with that funny sense of humor of hers.  She has an answer for everything.  Isn’t that right MORAN!??   Here’s some pictures of her and her family…..
